Les Cinq Toits

Les Cinq Toits is a social innovation project that promotes cultural diversity by bringing together a mix of audiences and activities within a former gendarmerie barracks. Around 350 people are housed there: refugees, asylum seekers, and isolated or vulnerable individuals. The premises are also made available to artisans, artists, social entrepreneurs, and community stakeholders. Through regular events, the project aims to build an economic, social, and cultural fabric that supports integration.

I volunteered with the two organizations based on site to design both a visitor booklet and a guide for residents, helping them navigate the building and the surrounding neighborhood. One of the main needs was to create a map of the site and its surroundings, along with a directory of the organizations and services located within the premises.

As Les Cinq Toits is a dynamic space that is constantly evolving, information changes frequently. It therefore became essential to develop a system that could be easily updated without generating additional costs for the organizations.

The project was designed with a dual structure: a fixed section for visitors, and updateable inserts such as maps and the directory of resident organizations for residents. This modular approach ensured both clarity and flexibility, allowing the guide to evolve alongside the life of the space.
